​Join Jamie Schubert to learn about collaborative restoration efforts in Texas following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the progress being made to restore Gulf habitats and marine resources.

Ocean on Tap's goal is to share the research, discoveries, and stories happening right here along our coast and to foster meaningful connections between scientists and residents through open conversation and curiosity about the ocean.​

Ocean on tap will be the first Thursday of the month with rotating presenters and topics.​​

September is Suicide Prevention Month. 

​

Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention is a community-based presentation that covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to help save lives.

​

The AFSP Southeast Texas Chapter is hosting a free Talk Saves Lives presentation for the Galveston community at Galveston Island Brewing leading up to their annual 5K. Stop in for a pint and learn about how you can help save a life. 

September 12 | Run for a New Day 5K

Saturday 7:30am

Join us for the "Run for a New Day" 5K in beautiful Galveston, TX! This inspiring event is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and mental health initiatives. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just looking for a fun way to support a great cause, this event is perfect for everyone.

Route:

Start and Finish is at Galveston Island Brewing. The route will go west on Stewart Road, south on 85th, and then west on the Seawall. Water Stop located at the turnaround. 

​

Awards:

Overall Male & Female, Age Groups Awards 1st-3rd Place: 19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and up. 
 
What to Expect:
-A scenic and fast 5K route along the paved seawall overlooking the Gulf.
Chip timed
-Fun and engaging activities for all ages
-Opportunities to connect with others who are passionate about mental health
-Everyone receives 1 custom event pint glass, commemorative event t-shirt, runners (21+) receive- 2 GIB beers
-Post-race after party at Galveston Island Brewery
-Free race photos available online after the race
-Strollers and dogs welcome!
-After you finish, recharge at the Swell Galveston Recovery Zone with post-run cold plunges - refresh, reduce soreness, and celebrate your finish. Remember to bring a towel and change of clothes for when you are done.
